Mark Dunning - Bioinformatics Core Director

Mark joined The University of Sheffield in October 2017 to establish the Bioinformatics Core. He works on a variety of different projects, and has a particular interest in Cancer Bioinformatics. He leads the development of our training program and is an accredited Carpentries instructor and FHEA.

Akshay Bhat - Cancer Bioinformatician

Akshay joined the Sheffield Bioinformatics Core in October 2023. He is funded by Prof. Jim Catto to perform Bioinformatics analysis on Bladder and Prostate cancer datasets

Emily Chambers - Bioinformatics Core Scientist

Emily joined the Bioinformatics Core at The University of Sheffield in September 2017. She has supported research for a wide variety of analysis projects across the University. She is leading the analysis for single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics data. Emily leads the teaching on some of our training workshops, and is an accredited instructor of The Carpentries and attained FHEA status with AdvanceHE.

Mim Arrulo - PhD Student (Co-Supervised)

Currently investigating novel therapies for soft tissue sarcomas. Ex-Vivo Lab & Rare Tumour Research Group, Faculty of Health, Division of Clinical Medicine.

Magda Dabrowska - Bioinformatics Core Associate

Magda joined the Bioinformatics Core at The University of Sheffield in June 2021. She develops Bioinformatics software for Thushan De Silva's group in the Division of Clinical Medicine.

Ben Draper - PhD Student (Co-Supervised)

Ben is an industrial PhD student at the University of Sheffield primarily supervised by David C James and co-supervised by Mark J Dunning.

Lewis Quayle - Bioinformatics Core Associate

Lewis joined the Bioinformatics Core as Cancer Bioinformatican in June 2022 to support Bladder Cancer Projects. He joined Sheffield Hallam University as a senior lecturer in Data Science Analytics, but retains an honorary contract with The University of Sheffield

Manoj Valluru - Bioinformatics Core Associate

Manoj's research has been centered around the functional characterization of genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic changes observed in cellular and experimental models of Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).

Requests for a Bioinformatics support clinic can be made via the Research Software Engineering (RSE) code clinic system. This is monitored by Bioinformatics Core staff, so we will ensure the appropriate expertise (which may involve individuals from multiple teams) will be available to help you

Queries regarding sequencing and library preparation provision at The University of Sheffield should be directed to the Multi-omics facility in SITraN or the Genomics Laboratory in Biosciences.
